The ‘ber months are always my favorite time of year! They bring cool air, warm sweaters, delicious smells, and my favorite people together! It reminds me of simple times, full of gatherings and celebration. Thankful for each other’s company. So I am starting a new series of tablescape designs for a fun filled fall that will leave you stress free and give you more time to gather with the ones you love the most.
If you are like me, once September hits, you want it to look and feel like fall, but that is kinda hard when it is still near 100 degrees during the day. And I definitely think the white pants after Labor Day should not count until the temps hit 85. But I guess I don’t make the rules. So, to kick off my tablescape series, is “Apple to My Pie” a fun transitional theme from summer to fall for those of us who are still experiencing hot temperatures.
So let’s get into the design! The Apple to My Pie tablescape is all about how to bring those hot temperatures and colors into fall. When you are ready to do fun fall activities, but feel weird setting out your pumpkins this early. The perfect in between, apples! A year round fruit that brings rich colors, flavors, and smells of fall. Like all my table designs, I start with a color palette. The obvious color for apples is red and green. I choose a deep candy apple red to bring in warm fall tones, and deeper green than a granny smith. The light green felt a little too summery for me, and I knew I would hit different green tones in the florals. Tying the palette together, I accented with a mauve/blush color to add some depth to our fall tones, and a pinky/coral to hint at the still warm temperatures. The final piece, a muted gold as I typically always have a metal aspect.
Once I have my colors picked out, I start getting creative and picking all of my tabletop elements. I started with none other than Divine Ivy’s Matte White Dinner Plate to be the main piece of the place setting. Adding in gold flatware creates a very sleek and modern look to the table as I felt that the centerpieces would likely bring in a little rustic/nature feel. I like to mix different design styles to create an attainable look for all. I then wanted to make a fun statement with a oval shaped menu, so I went very neutral with the white napkin. With the frayed edge design to the napkin, it made the place setting feel a little more homey and natural. To add a little flare, I added a blush velvet bow to the top of every menu. This does give a bit of a feminine touch, but the velvet adds some much needed texture to the modern place setting.
After I go through the place setting design, I then work on the centerpiece. All of my florists out there won’t like to hear it, but I always want the place setting to be the eye catching moment at a table. That’s because we all know how much I love tabletop!! Anyway, to me the centerpiece pulls the design together, but the place setting is the home base for each guest. I want it to be welcoming and exciting for the guest who will be seated there.
For the centerpiece, I wanted a bit of a natural, wild look since I went a little more structured and modern for the place setting. I created some fun floral elements using a white tray and floral frogs. Floral frogs are so fun to play around with because they allow you to make more whimsical designs. You are able to arrange the florals in a looser arrangement at various heights instead of the flowers being contained in a vase. This allows each stem to stand on it’s own and move to it’s own rhythm. I made two larger arrangements and then accented with four small bud vase arrangements to fill the length of the table.
Lastly, I filled the open space of the table with amber candlesticks and tall taper candles to create height and draw the eyes up for guests to see across the table. To finish out the theme, apples of course! Giving me all the Snow White vibes here!
Enjoy!! And look forward to next week’s table design: Crisp & Cozy!
